Scottie's Prom

This past weekend was my little brother's senior prom. While Scottie looked snazzy in his suit, his girlfriend wore a gown that looked exactly like Bell's from Beauty and the Beast. Patterned Dresses and Yellow dresses were a must have this prom!
I'm a sucker for jumping in the air photos. Here's Jeff and Scott

Soundset 09

Well it's all over and it's official: Soundset 2009 was sick. Kayd, my brother Arny, and I spent the day at Canterbury Park along with thousands of other followers of the local underground hip-hop scene. Let's just say Minnesota repped hard, and it was crazy to see so many legit artists perform in our own backyard.

Upon arrival at around 11:30 in the morning things were just getting started. The smell of bud filled the air and people were starting to crack open beers. Soundset's lineup was truly sick this year, as over 40 MC's had a chance to spit at some point. From local legends like Heiruspecs and Brother Ali to outsiders like Blueprint and Abstract Rude, Soundset kept things diverse. Of course, Atmosphere was there to wrap things up in style at the end of the day.

The turnout was pretty impressive, especially considering the fact that this was only the 2nd annual Soundset. Frankly, it doesn't look like turnout is going to diminish in the upcoming years, and we can only hope water is a little cheaper next time. Although the heat and lack of shade got annoying at times, the great music kept people going all day.

Kayd was especially excited when we had a chance to hear Cunninlynguists perform a sick set and me and Arny were floored by Immortal Technique's awesome performance, as expected. While electrical problems during Doom's set led to some disappointing moments, brilliant performances by Blue Scholars and I Self Devine more than made up for them.

I was more than happy to sport the MPLS shirt Kayd bought for me when we visited Fifth Element last week. To those who underestimate the breadth of the Minnesota hip-hop underground, hit up Soundset next year and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Mad props to Rhymesayers for putting together a terrific event.

Peace,
Jeet & Kayd

Stillwater Art Festival

A week ago I went to the Art Festival in Stillwater with my friend Jennifer. We've known each other since elementary school and it's crazy how much things have changed yet stayed the same since "hot" and "cold" lunches.

I haven't been to an Art Festival in years and they were just like I remembered them - the same thing booth after booth. I think 4 or 5 different booths were selling magnetic bracelets. I wasn't impressed by much there until we came across our last booth filled with rings and necklaces made from vintage pins and earrings. We stayed in the same spot for about 20 minutes trying to pick out which pieces of jewelry we wanted.

The black ring is the ring I finally decided on. It's going to look great with my black and white stripped shirt for my internship this summer! Although my mom is reminded of costume jewelry from Grandma's jewelry box, Jennifer and I are looking into creating our own.

Attend music Festivals/Camp
Try 10 new beers
Screen print shirts
Eat Sushi 5 times
Design Shoes

Minnehaha Falls

I can't believe that Abs thinks he's going to read 15 books this summer! Well I guess he needs something to do while riding the bus to and from Minneapolis for his job. We'll keep you posted on our goals and it will be interesting to see how many we actually get done.

Date Night at Fuji Ya

Since Abs and I don't see each other during the school year we take advantage of our summer months together.
Tonight I took Abhrajeet on a suprise date night. The last time I visited Philly we got lost and by chance found a sushi bar. It was the first time we had both eaten authentic sushi and loved every bite! Tonight we took a trip to Lake Street in Minneapolis and ate at Fuji Ya. We ordered Nigiri pieces which is a piece of fish on top of a clump of rice. In total we ordered 22 pieces of Nigiri including: Japanese Lobster, Yellowtail, Squid, Ahi Tuna, Blue Fin Tuna, Salmon, Striped Sea Bass, Red Snapper and Octopus.

Fuji Ya was very busy in the front of the restaurant when we arrived. I guess they must have a good happy hour. We were seated in the back of the restaurant where there are also "party" rooms with traditional style seating and screened off walls. We will definitely be going back and hope to be sushi experts by the end of the summer! If you want to hit this place up with us just let us know.

Happy Eating,
Kayd and Abs

Summer Has Begun

Well we're finally out of college for a few months and it's time to get summer going.

There's a lot we want to do this summer, including trips to the lake, trying out new restaurants, and checking out cool new places in and around the cities.

Of course we'll probably do some general chilling along the way and keep you posted on that too.

Keep Squishing,
Abs and Kayd
